“A great great talent” Jamie Cullum | "Powerful, poignant, but wholly engrossing” Clash
“Smoky Nina Simone styles blended with more contemporary R&B rhythms inspired by her African and Irish roots” M Magazine (PRS)

Produced and co-written by Grammy nominated songwriter John Beck and recent winner of BBC’s ‘Let It Shine’ Curtis T Johns, ‘Stop For A Minute’ is the latest track from Leeds based pop/jazz vocalist Malaika. Turning heads across the UK since supporting JONES and winning ‘Best Jazz/Blues’ at The Unsigned Music Awards in 2016, Malaika’s saccharine vocals and jazz inspired melodies have received plaudits and support from Jamie Cullum at BBC Radio 2, Huw Stephens at BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing.

Support from BBC Introducing, PRS Music Foundation and funding from The Arts Council have all helped kick start her burgeoning career. A journey which started last year after being handpicked by Jamie Cullum to perform at The Montreal International Jazz Festival  which quickly led to other support slots for Mica Paris and X Factor Finalist Luke Friend.

‘Stop For A Minute’ follows Malaika’s debut single ‘I Don’t Feel The Same’, the music video of which features Emmerdale actor Ethan Kai in a classic breakup storyline.
