Coming on the back its recently released lead single ‘Louder’ which has been supported by BBC 1Xtra, Clash Music, Dummy Magazine, Highsnobiety, Hunger Magazine and Earmilk among others, North London alternative Pop/R&B singer and songwriter, and BRIT School alumni Brook Baili is proud to release her debut EP titled Phases, which is out now via Mainframe Music.
The 5-track offering sees Brook Baili collaborating with fast-rising producer SAMPL, who has previously worked with the likes of Skepta, Shystie and Ms Banks, on all five songs on the record, to deliver a glorious representation of her own unique blend of alternative Pop/R&B music and compelling songwriting, which she first introduced us to, on ‘Louder’ only a few weeks ago, to rave reviews.
The EP opens in dramatic fashion with ‘Haunted’, backed by atmospheric piano arrangements, dense drum patterns and Baili’s ethereal vocals, and leads into the catchy and up-tempo love song ‘We Run Deep’, with its infectious acoustic guitar instrumentation, while the dancehall-flavoured house track ‘Cycles’, which Baili described as “the most profound song on here”, marks the EP’s half-way point.
Speaking about the inspiration for her Phases EP, Brook Baili says, “I wanted to tell stories based on where I’m at in my life right now and all the experiences that got me to this point. I wanted to capture the various phases we go through in life – highs, lows, love, joy, and pain – in my music. Sonically, this project is a reflection of my personality and me expressing myself in the way I want musically, which I haven’t been able to do previously until this point”.
