Taking his name from his self-described style of music, “suburban blues”, SUB BLUE offers a fresh take on chilled out, alternative introspective R&B.

“I’m reflecting my experiences and telling the stories of me and my friends who have grown up in a setting where life isn’t always as nice or as straightforward as it appears,” Sub Blue explains. “There are a texture and vibe to that – which I try to bring out; it is the essence of what I’m creating – that juxtaposition of perception versus reality.”

His forthcoming EP, Suburban View, is produced by the likes of Sir Dylan (Weeknd, Solange, Logic), A.V (Frank Ocean) and XamVolo, and is a glimpse at the life of teens trying to find their place in the world, while navigating peer and social pressure and trying to define their own voice. For now, Sub Blue gives a taste of that style and direction, with ‘Hype Like Supreme’, an ode to both a teenage crush described using the abnormal craze evoked by drops of coveted items like Supreme.

“I wrote the record about a girl. But I wanted to do it in a way that was a little bit different”, he explains, “I really wanted to explain that level of fascination and adoration she caused but in a way that my peers would understand. Like literally, she caused a hype like the way a Supreme drop does. The theme runs through the visual”

‘Hype Like Supreme’ was produced by acclaimed artist and producer, XamVolo who has garnered critical acclaim and support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Huw Stephens and Notion Magazine and is considered one of the UK’s new voices in the electronic-Soul / Alt-R&B scene
