UK Music Launches Survey on the Economic Impact of Black Music

ARTISTS, CREATORS, AND INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS – YOUR VOICE MATTERS!

Black music defines culture on a global scale. It’s crucial to understand the economic impact Black music brings to the UK music industry to ensure continued investment in the music and the talented people behind it.

UK Music, through its Diversity Taskforce and in collaboration with research partner Counterculture, has launched the groundbreaking ‘Full Diversity, Full Return’ survey. It’s the first study of its kind in the UK, aiming to assess the economic contribution of Black music while highlighting the perspectives of artists, creators, and professionals in Black British music.

Who Should Take Part in the Survey?

This survey is for you if you work in Black music as an artist, creator, producer, promoter or in any behind-the-scenes role. While the survey aims to amplify Black voices, it’s open to anyone involved in Black British music, regardless of ethnicity.

Why This Report Matters

To Champion Music Makers:
From legends like Sade and Shirley Bassey to modern icons like Stormzy and Ms Dynamite, Black British music has redefined the music landscape locally and globally. Yet, a comprehensive report examining its economic value and cultural significance has not been produced. This survey will illuminate Black music’s extraordinary contributions.

To Advocate for Diversity:
The industry’s response to the global reckoning on racial injustice in 2020 included commitments to supporting Black creators and professionals. This report will provide a data-backed foundation for sustained investment and support.

To Drive Collaboration:
This report will serve as a catalyst for industry-wide collaboration, promoting further research and greater financial and cultural contributions. It’s a blueprint for exploring similar topics across the UK music scene and a model for understanding the impact of Black music globally.

Join Us in Shaping the Future

The survey is open until Friday, January 17, 2025, and takes about 10 minutes to complete.

iluvlive encourages everyone in our community to lend their voice to this vital initiative. Whether you’re an artist, producer, promoter, or industry professional, your perspective is essential.

Together, let’s ensure Black music continues to thrive and inspire future generations.
